Marketplace Sales Are Rising but Cash Is Tight: Reconcile Seller Settlements
A marketplace dashboard can show strong sales while the bank account remains short of cash. Funding should be based on expected net settlements and their timing, not the gross order value displayed during a sale campaign.

Build a gross-to-net bridge
Start with dispatched orders, then identify cancellations, returns, platform charges, advertising deductions, taxes and other adjustments. Keep tax amounts separate and have your accountant confirm their treatment.
Reconcile the resulting net settlement with actual bank credits. Unexplained differences should be investigated before they become part of a loan projection.
Model the return window
A hypothetical seller purchases ₹8 lakh of stock and records ₹11 lakh of orders. That ₹3 lakh difference is not free cash: returns, platform deductions, delivery costs and the settlement lag still need to be funded.
Run a downside case with slower settlements and higher returns. Ask how much stock would remain saleable after the campaign and at what realistic recovery value.
Match funding to the cycle
Supplier credit, an approved working-capital facility or suitable receivables finance may address different parts of the gap. ICICI Bank's inland-trade page illustrates that lenders offer several distinct trade products; it does not establish universal eligibility for marketplace sellers.
Ask a prospective lender what settlement evidence, platform history and bank data it requires. Confirm whether the facility permits the intended inventory and advertising expenditure.
Practical control: maintain a weekly settlement-ageing report by marketplace. Show expected credits, amounts held and unresolved deductions separately.
Borrowing against optimistic gross sales can leave the business with both unsold inventory and repayments. A reconciled net-cash forecast gives a more defensible funding request and a clearer limit on how aggressively to participate in the next promotion.
