ECLGS 5.0 Calculation: Why Your Sanctioned Limit Is Not the Starting Number
The amount printed on a working-capital sanction letter may differ from the amount relevant to an ECLGS 5.0 calculation. Reconcile the underlying bank data before accepting an informal eligibility estimate.

Use the scheme's measurement base
For non-airline borrowers, NCGTC's May FAQ describes support based on 20% of peak regular fund-based working-capital outstanding during the last quarter of FY2025–26, subject to the aggregate ₹100 crore cap. Temporary or ad hoc facilities are excluded from that base; overlap adjustments can also matter.
This calculation is distinct from the lender's final sanction and from present availability under the scheme.
A hypothetical reconciliation
Assume a business had a ₹4 crore sanctioned regular limit, but the eligible peak outstanding was ₹2.5 crore. Twenty per cent of that peak is ₹50 lakh. Calculating 20% of the sanction would produce ₹80 lakh and overstate the initial estimate by ₹30 lakh.
This example assumes a single lender and no adjustment. Multiple facilities or existing scheme support require the prescribed aggregation method; do not add unrelated peaks independently without checking the FAQ and lender computation.
Documents that make the discussion useful
Provide facility-wise statements for the relevant quarter, sanction and enhancement letters, details of temporary limits, other lenders and support already received. Ask the lender to mark included and excluded amounts on a calculation sheet.
Next, compare the indicative amount with the actual cash requirement. A permitted calculation may still be more debt than the business needs, or less than its operating gap. Both situations call for planning rather than a larger headline request.
Decision point: treat the calculation as a screening tool. Allocation, eligibility, appraisal, operative amendments and sanction terms must still be confirmed before the amount becomes a usable source of funds.
