Collateral-Free MSE Loans up to ₹20 Lakh: What Changed in April 2026?

For a small business asked to mortgage family property for a modest loan, the ₹20 lakh collateral threshold matters. It changes a security requirement; it does not remove the need to demonstrate repayment capacity. Voluntarily pledged gold or silver is treated separately under the direction. Check that the applicant is a micro or small enterprise and that the relevant lender falls within this direction. Do not extend this statement to every NBFC or every medium enterprise. ## Build the application around use of funds A useful proposal says what the money will purchase, when the resulting sales will be collected and how repayment survives a weaker month. Attach quotations, bank statements, business registrations and a simple sales-to-cash reconciliation. Suppose a workshop needs ₹16 lakh for equipment and installation. A quotation alone explains expenditure, but not repayment. Add the expected production ramp-up, existing orders, monthly operating costs and the owner's contribution. Separate these assumptions from confirmed orders. ## If a branch still asks for property Ask which security is being requested and why. An asset directly associated with the financed business may be primary security; unrelated property is a different issue. Request a written explanation referring to the applicable product and direction, rather than relying on a verbal refusal. Do not split or disguise facilities to manufacture eligibility. Disclose existing debt and group exposure honestly. A smaller, fully explained application is more useful than a larger request supported only by the phrase “collateral-free”. Practical takeaway: prepare the commercial case first, then use the current rule to have a precise discussion about security. #CollateralFreeLoans #MSELoans #BusinessFinance #MoneiMatters ## Connect with Monei Matters Bring your proposed loan amount and cash-flow estimate to Monei Matters for a funding review.
