Can Service Businesses Use MCGS-MSME? Equipment and Cash-Flow Checks
A service business can have substantial equipment needs: a commercial kitchen, testing facility or specialised workshop may require more than office computers. The revised MCGS-MSME framework expressly includes eligible service enterprises.

Separate equipment-led expansion from ordinary overheads
The scheme's machinery-and-equipment composition requirement still matters. A proposal dominated by rent deposits, salaries, marketing or fit-outs should not be assumed to qualify merely because a few machines are included.
Ask the lender to review a line-item project-cost schedule and identify which assets count under the current guidelines. Eligibility also depends on the borrower and facility conditions; a business description is only the starting point.
Translate capacity into receipts
For a kitchen, additional equipment does not itself produce paid orders. For a diagnostic or testing operation, installed capacity does not equal utilisation. Show the path from capacity to billable work, the time taken to collect and the cost of maintaining service quality.
A useful downside case asks what happens if utilisation reaches only half the expected level for the first six months. Can the business still meet rent, salaries, maintenance and debt service? Which expenses can actually be reduced?
Three documents worth preparing
- Equipment quotations and installation requirements, including utility upgrades.
- Evidence of existing demand, separating signed contracts from enquiries.
- Monthly cash flow covering commissioning, operating expenses and collections.
Do not classify a building improvement as machinery simply to reach an eligibility threshold. Equally, do not dismiss the scheme solely because the business sells services rather than manufactured goods.
Practical next step: prepare the project schedule and operating assumptions together. A lender can then assess both the scheme fit and the commercial logic, with fewer rounds of incomplete clarification.
